The late Mair Jones, renowned harpist, was an early supporter of RICE given her international outlook and interest in promoting diversity and humanistic values, and wanted to contribute to the developing RICE programme. Mair herself, as usual, came up with the way forward when she decided to donate her teaching harp, and made some recordings, to develop a programme of music exchanges between N E India and Wales, and this became possible with the support and help of Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias who are now leading the project after signing an MOU with Martin Luther Christian University in Shillong. Sadly, Mair passed away before the project started, but her harp which was handed over to Professor Lily Bamon, Vice Chancellor of MLCU at a ceremony in Nant Clwyd y Dre in 2022 is now in Shillong, and local students are receiving harp lessons on line from tutors at CGWM; Khasi Hills are now truly alive with the sound of Welsh harp.
